Our Next Meeting:
Sunday, December 13, 6:30-8:00PM
We are very pleased to have Emily O'Brien back as our coach for December. Well-known to BRS, Emily is a dynamic performer, coach, and all-round creative artist. Read more about Emily on her website.
We send music and a Zoom link to all Fall/Winter ensemble members; you do not need to RSVP. Basic members and non-members, please register and pay the meeting fee, after which you will receive the music and link. Remember, you can join these online duets on any A=440 instrument. We hope to see you (virtually speaking!) on December 13.
Classes and Events
Amherst Early Music Online
Weekend classes continue, with December's offerings here. Coming up on Sunday December 6:
  • Joris Van Goethem and Tom Beets of the Flanders Quartet tell you to grab your sopranino! They will share advice about mastering the famous Vivace from the Telemann F major sonata, by way of warmups from the Bird Fancier's Delight, a 1717 collection of tunes composed to teach to pet songbirds.
  • Marilyn Boenau, director of Amherst Early Music and frequent coach of our BRS loud sessions, leads renaissance brass and reeds in a selection of seasonal music.
Technique Tips Videos from the ARS
The American Recorder Society has sponsored an interesting and varied collection of videos with tips on taming your recorder--articulation, finger placement, tuning, trills, and more. Teachers include Francis Blaker, Tish Berlin, Peter Wong, Jody Miller, Vicki Boeckman, Anne Timberlake, and Boston area performers Emily O'Brien (this month's guest) and John Tyson. Watch and learn here.

Anne Timberlake's Wednesday Webinars
Anne Timberlake's next Wednesday Webinar is It Was Better At Home: Strategies for Improving Your Performance, on December 9 at 8PM EST. Do you blaze through pieces in the practice room only to stumble when someone is listening? In this live Zoom webinar, Ann will discuss evidence-based, time-tested strategies for improving your performance both before and during your time in the spotlight.
Play Along with James Howard Young
