| || |
Register now for the 2014-2015 season, our 60th Year!
If you play recorders, baroque flute or other early winds, or baroque strings, we're looking forward to making music with YOU!
Please join us as we celebrate our 60th year of playing together. There may be a surprise or two this year as we mark this milestone in the history of the Boston Recorder Society!
Our BRS ensemble groups will meet at Lesley University's University Hall in Porter Square, Cambridge one Sunday evening per month, from 6:30-9:00 PM, with a break mid-evening for socializing and refreshments.
for our season opener: Sunday, September 21, 6:30-9:00 PM
We encourage you to bring something for the snack table for our September meeting--savory or sweet nibbles, or drinks, would be appreciated. Paper goods provided by BRS. Beginning in October, refreshments will be provided by a different ensemble group each month--watch the newsletter for your group's assignment.
Announcing our Fall 2014 Coaches!
BRS is pleased to announce that our coaches for the Fall will be:
Recorder Ensemble - Eric Haas
Recorder Ensemble - Emily O'Brien
Recorder Ensemble - Sheila Beardslee and Sarah Cantor (shared group)
Ensemble Skills Group - Coach To Be Announced
Loud Group - Marilyn Boenau
Many, many thanks to our Coaches for agreeing to work with our ensembles this Fall.
Ensemble Offerings for 2014-2015
Ability-matched Monthly Ensembles for intermediate and advanced recorders, baroque flutes and strings; 3 separate groups:
Ensemble Skills Group for recorder players who are new to ensemble playing or need a refresher after not playing for awhile:
- This group is designed to provide a supportive environment for players who would like to work on ensemble skills such as tuning, switching from F to C instruments, and playing different lines.
- Sign up for Fall semester only. If you are ready in the Spring, you can renew and/or move into the appropriate ability-matched group.
- Because a dedicated coach is needed for this group, we ask that members of this group commit to attending for the entire term and pre-payment will be required. If we do not have at least 3 members, this option will not be offered in the Fall. Placement in this group will be determined by the BRS Music Director.
Loud Band for players of all the various early winds and percussion:
- All loud wind instruments welcome! Shawms, sackbuts, dulcians, cornettos, serpents, and anything else you might want to try.
- This is a mixed-level ensemble -- you don't have to be an expert! A supportive environment for learning and fun.
Membership Options for the 2014-2015 Ensembles
See the BRS Website
for online and mail-in registration and payment forms.
As a basic member, you can attend single ensemble sessions at the member discount rate of $20 per session. Even if you don't attend regularly, becoming a basic member shows your support for BRS goals and allows you to have a voice in BRS planning and to vote at the annual meeting. (Basic membership fee is tax-deductible.)
$30, or $20 for seniors, full-time students, ARS/REMM members
Full-year Ensemble Membership:
$155, or $135 for seniors, full-time students, ARS/REMM members
Attend all nine monthly sessions! By becoming an ensemble member, you are helping BRS plan coaching and placement most effectively. As with basic membership, you have a voice in BRS planning and can vote at the annual meeting. (A portion of the ensemble membership fee equivalent to the basic membership fee is tax-deductible.)
Fall-semester Ensemble Skills Group Membership:
$70, or $60 for seniors, full-time students, ARS/REMM members
Attend all four fall sessions (Sept through December) at the ensemble member rates. This option is for the Ensemble Skills group only.
Note: If our membership fees would be a hardship for you, a limited number of scholarships are available. Contact the BRS treasurer for a confidential discussion of your situation.
This workshop is for players who love to play low recorders: tenor, bass, C-bass, Great bass, or Contra-bass. Watch for registration details coming soon!
Save the date! Low Recorder Consort
Fall Half-day Workshop: Saturday afternoon, November 1, 2014
Date: Saturday afternoon, November 1, from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM
To be announced (we will have two coaches if there is sufficient demand)
Fee: $55 non-members/$50 members/$45 senior members (65+) and full-time students
Location: Lesley University, University Hall, 1815 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge (see the BRS Website for directions and parking information)
At least half the participants must be able to bring an instrument lower than bass, so that the workshop can successfully present the experience of a full rich low instrument consort.
We are in need of low recorders to use in this workshop (instruments lower than bass). If you are not able to attend and you have a low recorder, we would be most grateful if we could arrange to borrow your instrument for this workshop.
Registration details will be available later this month. Watch your email!
